KY Home Performance - What Improvements Qualify

Program Minimum Standards

Air Sealing and Insulation (ENERGY STAR certification not required), provided that all of the following must be completed:

  • Air sealing of the home and ducts is performed, and
  • If current Ceiling insulation does not meet R-19, installed Ceiling insulation must achieve R-38 or better*, and
  • If current Floor insulation does not meet R-11, installed Floor insulation must achieve R-19 or better*

*Unless structural limitations prevent achievement of these insulation levels, in which instances the maximum R-value that can be achieved is required.

  • All equipment must be listed on energystar.gov.
  • Geothermal: Closed Loop Only

100% of the work being done may be financed up to $20,000 (if credit qualified) or eligible for the rebate if at least 85% of the work is qualifying improvements as shown.

Non-qualifying improvements may include (all must be approved by KHP):
  • Related, or precursors, to the energy efficiency improvements, e.g. electrical work that needs to be brought to code in order to install an HVAC system
  • Items related to indoor air quality (as indoor air quality is a part of the ENERGY STAR program), e.g. humidification or de-humidification
  • Items related to health and safety, e.g. carbon monoxide alarms, etc.
